WRITING IN DISCIPLINE AS A PLATFORM IN EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
“To care about sustainable development means to accept responsibility for the well-being of
future generations and also of our habitat, of our planet. An affirmative attitude towards
sustainability has to be an integral part of the moral foundation of our activities and of your
lifestyle. This means that promoting sustainable development must be an important aspect of
the educational agenda at all levels.”
Aims and Objectives Central to the Summer School was the question how HEIs can meet the challenges of implementing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The following themes are equally relevant for all areas of education, they therefore offer themselves as framework for discussion:
· Introduction to sustainable university, sustainable development as strategy and aim for higher education
· Teaching and learning: competencies; curriculum content and methodological challenges; anchoring sustain ability in the curriculum
· University-community knowledge exchange, anchoring societal responsibilities in the corporate sector
· Cooperation of various stakeholders for sustainable development
· Gaining insights into processes with stakeholders in a German UN DESD community
Human Rights and Sustainable Development
· Stress the connection between education and human rights
· Contextualize human rights to specific world/regional/ community realities (adoption vs.adaptation)
· Human rights should be universal intrinsical and ontological human values and principles
· Responsibility to ensure human rights is needed.
